They said it couldn’t be done.
Check out the 1981 Compac 16/2 Sailboat Pilothouse Conversion
Have you ever dreamed of adding a pilothouse to your small sailboat? It can be done with a little planning and careful design. Using the Screw & Glue method of Coosa Board construction, you can build a simple pilothouse that looks good, is light weight, and will last many years.
This pilothouse conversion doesn’t create too much windage and it doesn’t put too much weight up high. The pilothouse has portholes and is constructed of 1/2″ Coosa Board and 3mm Luan with fiberglass cloth. It weighs approximately 50lbs. The pilothouse bolts to deck and could be removed as needed. The addition of the pilothouse opens up the interior making it much more comfortable. The original sliding companionway hatch was re-used and is a nice addition and allows climbing into/out of the cabin.
